Lagerfeld and Slash

Current mood: confused
Category: Art and Photography

New year, new blogs. Yes, this is the time when I ingest ideas and inspirations in hopes of turning them into something in the spring.

For now, right at this moment, it is Karl Lagerfeld, and Slash, of Guns'n'Roses.

I saw a documentary on Lagerfeld today. It was interesting and inspiring. I love fashion movies, and it's been years since I've seen one. Anyway, there is a Cambridge cab driver I have had and see around the neighborhood from time to time. I asked if he'd ever driven anyone famous, and he said Karl Lagerfeld...

Lagerfeld doesn't have personal relationships i.e. boyfriends. He talks in the film about being detached. He also talks about his mother, and what she was like. Cold. But he claims to have liked it, and think other mothers were silly. Yes, detached is what he claims to prefer. The film resultingly makes him seem isolated. The man is an enigma, for he seems simultaneously inhuman and casually human. Who knows what is really going on in there. But he claims he doesn't want anyone to really know him, not even the ones he loves deeply.

Slash's autobio is very entertaining but so real. He talks at great length about what the other band members were like, and how they all interacted, their working methods, group/individual dysfunction, etc. I eat it up.

But I feel both things are bathing my brain with information that gives me more insight into the human condition from that fortunate perspective which is not my own.

Er, at least according to Martin Bisi's new record, I am.

See track one and get a dose of my vox.

The artwork is lovely too!
