Mysterious Skin

Mysterious Skin
Current mood: hungry

Watched Mysterious Skin last night instead of going to see Dungen and Witch.

It's a Gregg Araki film. I like his other works that I've seen.

I also like Atom Egoyan.

Anyway, this one was heavy and somewhat Donnie Darko.

I don't wanna give away too much, but lets just say it's like Monster or Boys Don't Cry from a more male perspective.

Sad vulnerability and destroyed youth.

Some fine actors in there, though. Damn, that kid from Third Rock grew up rather nicely. And Brady Corbet!

The most intense part of the whole DVD is the extra featuring him reading from the book by Scott Heim that the film was based on. He is videotaped reading somewhere outside, in California I guess. Ranks right up there with that scene of Malkovich reading aloud.

Oh and the soundtrack was done by Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins) and Harold Budd. That's how I found out about the film - at a Robin Guthrie solo show about a year and a half ago. I met Robin that night. Sweet and flirty chap, he was.

It brought up some questions about my own childhood. Not lost time, per se, because I remember no such phenomenon, but other strange things that occurred that my mom told me about years later.
